A fatal truck crash closed U.S. Highway 27 overnight, Feb. 9, 2010. The fatal truck accident involved a tractor-trailer that was loaded with goats, pigs, cows and chickens and a smaller truck. The driver of the smaller truck was killed immediately along with several of the farm animals.
The Florida truck accident occurred just south of the Broward-Palm Beach County line at approximately 10:30 p.m. Emergency crewmembers closed both lanes of the two-lane highway for nearly six hours following the accident. Images of the truck crash show a number of animals scattered throughout the highway, lying dead, and a number of others running loose at the scene.
The exact cause of the accident has not been released. Florida Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the Florida tractor-trailer collision.

Due the sheer size and weight of tractor-trailers, when they are involved in collisions with other vehicles, the results are usually tragic. Research shows that passengers of smaller vehicles tend to suffer severe injuries and even death more often than the truck drivers, as they are not as protected.
